Welcome to the 2018 edition of the Northwest Tandem Rally hosted by the Mid Valley Bicycle Club. NWTR has been an annual event since 1986. MVBC was founded in 1974 and has hosted the Tandem Rally 4 times before. This years event promises to be the best yet.

If you’ve done some riding in the mid Willamette Valley then you already know we have an abundance of quiet country roads through farmland and forests and up into the foothills of both the Cascades and Coast Range. If this will be your first time here you’re in for a real treat. As all of our routes start in the valley there are lots of options for mostly flat rides, as well as hilly rides, or even a short climb into the mountains if your legs are up for it.

Having the Fourth of July fall in the middle of the week has given us the opportunity to offer an extended rally. This year you can choose to stay an additional two days beyond the four day event for six days of riding through the scenic Willamette Valley. And if you still want more you can join us for a three or four day tour following the rally.

In addition to the riding we will have lots of activities planned to make this a really enjoyable experience.

Albany Carousel

The 2018 Northwest Tandem Rally will be centered in the historic town of Albany in the heart of the Willamette Valley.  Albany is the 11th largest city in Oregon and is located at the confluence of the Calapooia and Willamette Rivers.  Founded around 1848 the town has the most varied collection of historic buildings in Oregon.  In town visit the pioneer-era Monteith House, museums, the carousel, River Rhythms music in the park on Thursday evening, and many antique shops.  Surrounding Albany is one of the most diversified agricultural areas of the state, featuring miles of quiet country roads, historic covered bridges, and an expanding wine industry.

  • Dry RV parking available at South Albany High School
  • Multiple hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts in Albany and in the surrounding mid-Willamette Valley area
  • Camping available at Waterloo County Park near Lebanon, or the Albany/Corvallis KOA
  • RV camping may be available at Knox Butte RV Park and Blue Ox RV Park in Albany.
  • For nearby tent camping there are Warm Showers hosts in the area willing to let you camp in their yard. This is a site and service by and for cyclists that gets rave reviews for ease of use and how friendly the hosts and guests are. Here is a link to their site: https://www.warmshowers.org/

Note: As the 2018 rally is still a year away this is all preliminary planning and subject to change.
